12:29 PM

The Golden gate, The Brooklyn Bridge and the Tower Bridge comes to our minds, when we say most beautiful bridges, but lets go beyond that...lets see if there's really amazing bridges out there. This is what we found after a vast internet research. I'm sure there's a few here you may have never heard of.

1. Khaju Bridge, Iran
Khaju Bridge is arguably the finest bridge in the province of Isfahan, Iran.It was built by the Persian Safavid king, Shah Abbas II around 1650 C.E., on the foundations of an older bridge. Serving as both a bridge, and a dam (or a weir), it links the Khaju quarter on the north bank with the Zoroastrian quarter across the Zayandeh River. Although architecturally functioning as a bridge and a weir, it also served a primary function as a building and a place for public meetings.

2. Chengyang Bridge, China
Chengyang, Wind and Rain Bridge is also called Yongji Bridge or Panlong Bridge. It is one of the artistic precious things of Chinese wood architecture. The bridge is 64.4 meters long, 3.4 metes wide and 10.6 meters high. Constructed with wood and stones, the surface of the bridge is paved with wooden boards and both sides are inlayed with railings. The Dong people also erect covered bridges with porches and pavilions which provide shelter even when it rains. Hence the beautiful name Wind and Rain Bridge.

3. The Bridge of Immortals, China
The Bridge of Immortals is the world's highest bridge. It is situated in the Yellow Mountains, also known as Huangshan. Very little information and a few photos are available of the The Bridge of Immortal on the Internet. May be its because China has a large cultural heritage that is not explored by the world yet.

4. Bastei Bridge, Germany
The Bastei Bridge is a sandstone walking bridge connecting rocky peaks above the Elbe River in Germany. The bridge is located in the Saxon Switzerland National Park in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains, very close to Saxon Switzerland.

5. The Bridge of Sighs, Italy
The Bridge of Sighs is a bridge located in Venice, northern Italy. The enclosed bridge is made of white limestone and has windows with stone bars. It passes over the Rio di Palazzo and connects the New Prison to the interrogation rooms in the Doge's Palace. It was designed by Antoni Contino (whose uncle Antonio da Ponte had designed the Rialto Bridge), and was built in 1602.

6. Pont du Gard, France
The Pont du Gard is an ancient Roman aqueduct bridge that crosses the Gardon River in Vers-Pont-du-Gard near Remoulins, in the Gard département of southern France. It is part of the Nîmes aqueduct, a 50 km-long (31 mi) structure built by the Romans to carry water from a spring at Uzès to the Roman colony of Nemausus (Nîmes). Because the terrain between the two points is hilly, the aqueduct – built mostly underground – took a long, winding route that crossed the gorge of the Gardon, requiring the construction of an aqueduct bridge. Built in the 1st century AD, the Pont du Gard is the highest of all Roman aqueduct bridges and is the best preserved with the Aqueduct of Segovia.

7. Near Old Bridge (Bad Kreuznach), Germany
Near the old bridge is a bridge section in Bad Kreuznach , in the course of the Mannheim Road near the mill and pond, a tributary of the Middle spans. The bridge is adjacent to the Merchant's Bridge in Erfurt and the interior bridge in Esslingen in Germany nor to the existing bridges that are built up with houses.

8. The Göltzsch Viaduct, Germany
The Göltzsch Viaduct is a railway bridge in Germany. It is the largest brick-built bridge in the world, and for a time it was the tallest railway bridge in the world. It spans the valley of the Göltzsch River between Mylau and Netzschkau, around 4 kilometres (2.5 mi) west of Reichenbach im Vogtland in the German Free State of Saxony. It was built between 1846 and 1851 as part of the railway between Saxony (Leipzig, Zwickau, and Plauen) and Bavaria (Hof and Nuremberg). It is currently part of the Leipzig–Hof line, near the Netzschkau station. About 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) south, the smaller Elster Viaduct was built for the same line and is quite similar to the Göltzsch Viaduct.

9. Nanpu Bridge, China
The Nanpu Bridge in Shanghai, China, sister bridge to the Yangpu Bridge, is one of the main bridges in Shanghai. The cable-stayed bridge was designed by the Shanghai Municipal Engineering Design Institute, Shanghai Urban Construction College, and Shanghai Urban Construction Design Institute, with assistance from Holger S. Svensson. It has a main span of 428 meters (1,388 ft), shorter than its sister bridge. It is the 57th longest cable-stayed bridge in the world, opened to the public in 1991.

10. The San Francisco–Oakland Bay Bridge
The San Francisco–Oakland Bay Bridge is a pair of bridges spanning San Francisco Bay of the U.S. state of California. As part of Interstate 80 and the direct road route between San Francisco and Oakland, it carries approximately 280,000 vehicles per day on its two decks. It has one of the longest spans in the world.

11. Banpo Bridge, South Korea
The Banpo Bridge is a major bridge in downtown Seoul over the Han River, South Korea, connecting the Seocho and Yongsan districts. The Banpo Bridge is on top of Jamsu Bridge, forming a "double deck" bridge. During periods of high rainfall, the Jamsu Bridge is designed to submerge as the water level of the river rises, as the lower deck lies close to the waterline. This deck incorporates pedestrian and bicycle paths that provide easy access to the Banpo Hangang Park from the north side of the river. Banpo Bridge is a girder bridge and was completed in 1982.

12. Ponte Vecchio, Italy
The Ponte Vecchio is a Medieval stone closed-spandrel segmental arch bridge over the Arno River, in Florence, Italy, noted for still having shops built along it, as was once common. Butchers initially occupied the shops; the present tenants are jewellers, art dealers and souvenir sellers. The Ponte Vecchio's two neigh bouring bridges are the Ponte Santa Trinita and the Ponte alle Grazie.
